End of the year teacher gifts

Dos and don’ts of teacher gifts

DON‘Ts

  • PSA: DO NOT BUY YOUR CHILD’S TEACHER A MUG. Picture this - every year, for 20 years, students get teachers mugs that say “best teacher ever”… think of how many mugs one person can store in their cabinet. NO MORE MUGS

  • DO NOT buy “#1 teacher” jewelry or tea towels. If you doh’t want it, they don’t want it. DON’T think that since the class pitches in on a gift that it shows YOUR appreciation. Put thought into doing something kind to sbow that you are grateful for the teacher taking care of YOUR child.

DO’s

  • DO buy gift cards for AMAZON. AmEx and Starbucks giftcards are great in theory but not everywhere takes AmEx and who has time to pick up Starbucks?

  • DO Write a heartfelt note to the teacher about how they helped your child and why you are so grateful for them- if you have a child who can write, have THE CHILD write the note to the teacher about 5-10 ways that they helped them that year.

  • DO feel free to buy your teacher a bottle of wine. Teachers are humans too, and after taking care of YOUR child all year, they need to drink, so maybe get TWO bottles…
